Coach Kim Charles graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She received her Masters Degree from Kennesaw State and an Educational Specialist from Lincoln Memorial University. Coach Charles has been teaching math in Gilmer County for 27 years and brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Lady Cats staff. Coach Charles has experience coaching both boys and girls in multiple sports. She also currently serves as the Head Coach of Lady Cats Softball for GHS. She and her husband Al have two children, JoeBob and Bailey. JoeBob is currently playing basektball at Young Harris College and Bailey is a senior at GHS this year. They are members of Nine Mile Methodist Church. She is thrilled to be a part of the Gilmer Lady Cats Basketball Program.

Erica Owens

Assistant Coach

Erica Owens joined the Gilmer Lady Cat family in the 2013-2014 season. Prior to joining the Lady Cat staff, Owens most recently served as a graduate assistant at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia in 2011-2013 where she worked primarily with guard development, tape exchange, recruiting, and strength and conditioning workouts. Owens graduated from Columbus State in 2013 with a Masters of Education in School Counseling.

Prior to that, Owens played four years of basketball at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Over her four year career as a Lady Viking she played in 95 games despite having an injury that sidelined her during most of her senior season and scored 632 points. The Cleveland, GA native helped Berry secure two bids to the National Tournament before their transition to NCAA Division III status. Owens was also a member of the women's golf team at Berry. Owens graduated from Berry in 2011 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology. Erica is married to Drew Owens, P.E. teacher at Ellijay Primary School and assistant softball and assistant baseball coach at Gilmer High School. The couple is expecting their first child in April 2015.

 

 

Haley Parks is a 2008 graduate of Gilmer High School. She played basketball for four years and was a member of the 2007-2008 team that made it to the first round of the state playoffs. Upon graduating from GHS, she attended Kennesaw State University where she graduated in 2013 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She is a second grade teacher at Mountain View Elementary School, and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Chuch. Parks is excited to be a part of the Lady Cat Basketball Program.
